Day 7

I woke up way too early in the morning to catch a bus towards the Waitomo caves.  We started into the caves by rappelling down about 100 feet and at the bottom I made an eel friend.  Eventually, after they caught up with me, we fought our way around the cave and through the river, sometimes floating in an inner-tube and sometimes trudging upstream through the current.  We also did do some tight squeezes (these were really cool), I wish I had pictures but they ban cameras to try and make you buy the pictures they take (sad Gu is sad).

The really impressive bit is the glow worms or as the guide called them "glow shitting maggots".  The way they make you feel isn't easily described.  It just seems magical, like the first time you see the stars on a new moon from somewhere far from civilization.  There are pictures but they really don't do them any justice.

But here they are anyway: (just stock photographs)
the glowworms and the innertubes
The rappel down on the left and the climb out on the right

On a side note tonight was the first night I had to cook for myself.  I threw together some eggs, kiwis, and bananas.

Tomorrow I head to Hobbiton
